Rwanda’s utilities regulator, RURA, has raised fuel prices, with petrol now costing 1,989 Rwandan francs per litre an increase of 127 francs from the previous rate.

In a statement released by RURA, it was revealed that the price of a litre of petrol rose from 1,862 Rwandan francs, the rate that had been in effect for the past two months, to 1,989 Rwandan francs.

Diesel prices also increased to 1,900 Rwandan francs per litre, up from 1,808 francs, marking a rise of 92 francs compared to the previous rate.

The new prices, announced late on Friday, November 7, will officially take effect on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

RURA stated that “in order to address fluctuations in international petroleum prices, the Government of Rwanda continues to carefully manage the country’s fuel reserves.”

It added that “sound macroeconomic management measures are also being implemented to protect consumers and prevent excessive increases in fuel prices.”

The price adjustment comes amid unrest in Tanzania following a disputed presidential election, which has disrupted transport and caused fuel shortages in the country.

As a result, nations that import petroleum products through Tanzanian ports are experiencing delays and difficulties in securing sufficient supplies on time.
