Foreign nationals arrested in Rwanda over involvement in violent acts

The Rwanda National Police has arrested three foreign students from UNILAK University who are being investigated for assaulting and injuring two motorcycle taxi operators (motari) in Gatenga Sector, Kicukiro District, Kigali City.


In a statement released on its social media platforms, the Rwanda National Police said: “Hello, the Rwanda National Police has arrested three foreign students from UNILAK who assaulted and injured two motorcyclists.”

The statement added: “The incident occurred in Gatenga Sector, Kicukiro District. The suspects are being held at Kicukiro Police Station as we work with relevant institutions to ensure that legal procedures are followed.”

Security agencies concluded by urging the public to report incidents promptly: “We remind the public to always report information on time, and such acts will not be tolerated. Thank you.”

News of the altercation spread on social media, with some citizens calling for a thorough investigation to determine what caused the clash between the students and the motorcyclists.

The Rwanda National Police continues to urge the public to report incidents promptly and to avoid acts of violence and hooliganism, reminding everyone that the country has laws governing all citizens and that anyone who violates them will be held accountable.
