Emmanuel Bucyanayandi, who was seen in a video asking a church member for money he had withdrawn from the bank as a “fee to avoid death,” has been arrested.

The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), in collaboration with the Rwanda National Police, arrested Emmanuel Bucyanayandi, who claims to be a preacher. He is accused of using so-called prophecies to extort money from people and intimidate them.

In a statement posted on its official X account, RIB said: “In collaboration with the Rwanda National Police, RIB has arrested Bucyanayandi Emmanuel, who calls himself a preacher and was seen on social media scaring people using false prophecies, asking them for money so they would not face death, disease, or so that their offerings would be multiplied fivefold.”

RIB added:“He is detained at the RIB Remera Station while his case file is being processed for submission to the Prosecution.”

RIB concluded by reminding the public not to believe in such deceptive teachings that promise miracles, as they are aimed at stripping people of their property and misleading them. Instead, citizens are urged to focus on their work and strive for personal development.

RIB and the Police also warned all those who hide behind so-called prophecies to steal or defraud people that such acts will not be tolerated.
