Late last night, at around 8 p.m., large numbers of Burundian troops and FARDC soldiers began withdrawing from several areas of Ndondo  including Murambya, Gahuna and neighbouring zones after coming under intense pressure from Twirwaneho fighters, who have continued to push back government forces.

Sources within Bijombo confirm that Twirwaneho advanced on these localities early this morning, forcing out the remaining troops from the areas mentioned.

Residents report that the retreating FARDC and Burundian soldiers are fleeing toward Bibogobogo and heading to the town of Baraka in Fizi territory.

Current information indicates that Twirwaneho now controls key strategic points, including Wumugeti, Kagogo, Irango and other areas previously held by Burundian and FARDC forces. This development has turned Bijombo and its surroundings into one of the most rapidly changing military zones in South Kivu.

These shifts come as AFC/M23/MRDP-Twirwaneho operations continue to reshape the security dynamics in eastern DRC. On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the coalition captured the strategic city of Uvira.
