Ndayishimiye attends Samia Suluhu’s swearing-In
Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye has arrived in Dodoma to attend the swearing-in of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, marking a show of solidarity and strengthened ties between the two neighboring nations.
According to a statement released by the Burundian Presidency on Monday, the visit aims to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
The election, held on October 29, 2025, saw Samia Suluhu Hassan win with 98% of the vote. However, it was followed by unrest in some parts of the country, with opposition groups accusing the electoral commission of failing to uphold fairness and transparency.

The inauguration ceremony is expected to be attended by several regional leaders, including heads of state from East Africa.
President Ndayishimiye’s attendance symbolizes the strong partnership between Bujumbura and Dodoma, as well as a commitment to promoting peace and regional cooperation.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who served as Vice President under the late John Pombe Magufuli until 2021, became Tanzania’s first female head of state. She has pledged to continue progressive policies, promote gender equality, and pursue development through international collaboration.
However, youth protests have intensified across the country, rejecting Samia’s victory and the conduct of the election, with demonstrators calling for her resignation.
