Renowned Ugandan film director and producer John Segawa has claimed that National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, is currently filming another political documentary as the 2026 general election campaigns intensify.

Speaking on a podcast, Segawa argued that Bobi Wine’s recent conduct on the campaign trail appears intentionally dramatized for the camera. He accused him of staging scenes such as sleeping in rundown lodges, provoking confrontations with security personnel, and showcasing harsh travel conditions all allegedly crafted to create compelling documentary footage.

According to Segawa, Bobi Wine is attempting to replicate the international success of the award-winning 2022 documentary “Bobi Wine: The People’s President,” which followed his 2021 presidential campaign and brought him global recognition.

“He used the previous campaign to create a documentary that propelled him to international stardom. Now he’s doing the same again. He’s offering Ugandans nothing new,”
Segawa said.

He further insisted that the NUP leader should prioritize presenting clear policy alternatives to voters rather than “playing political gimmicks.”

NUP Pushes Back, Blames Security for Provocations

While Segawa accuses Bobi Wine of orchestrating drama, the NUP maintains that it is the state security forces provoking chaos and obstructing their campaign activities.

In a recent statement, Bobi Wine described a chaotic scene during a rally in Gulu, saying the campaign team was met by military vehicles, police trucks, and armed personnel who allegedly blocked their route and assaulted members of the team.

“Armed military operatives wielding sticks pounced on us and brutalized our campaign team. Comrade Dan Magic and others were injured. We had to abandon our vehicles and walk for over 5 kilometers to reach our venue,”
Bobi Wine said.

The clash is one of several incidents the NUP claims have been engineered to frustrate their campaign movement across the country.
