Kigali once again transformed into a vibrant hub of nostalgia, culture, and classic music as it hosted the fifth edition of the Oldies Music Festival. The annual celebration took place at Kigali Universe on the evening of Saturday leading into Sunday, December 7, 2025.

Each year, the festival continues to cement its reputation as a beloved gathering for enthusiasts of vintage music and retro fashion both those who lived through the era and those who cherish its timeless charm.

This year’s edition drew a large crowd of Rwandans and friends of Rwanda, all dressed in old-school outfits. Attendees embraced the spirit of the event by wearing vintage hats, classic dresses, old-style trousers, kitenge fabrics, and Afro-themed clothing that brought the past vividly back to life.

The festival featured a rich blend of entertainment: Symphony Band revived classic hits, while DJ Karim, DJ Iraa, and DJ RY electrified the night with old-school mixes. Host Anita Pendo added energy and elegance as she led the event.

Activities included Karaoke and Open Mic, where participants performed legendary songs from past decades, creating emotional and nostalgic moments that resonated with many.

Best Dressed Attendees

A long-standing festival tradition is recognizing the best-dressed participants. This year, organizers selected two individuals who stood out for their exceptional interpretation of vintage fashion.

Evode, dressed in Afro-traditional attire, captivated the crowd with his masterful blend of colors, classic fabrics, and African handcrafted accessories. His look evoked fashion from the 1970s and 1980s simple yet rich in cultural symbolism.

Ingabire Justine embraced early-2000s fashion, a period known for its bold and iconic styles. Her outfit resembled the aesthetics seen in R&B music videos of artists like Missy Elliott and Aaliyah, earning her enthusiastic applause.

Each winner received a 250,000 RWF shopping voucher along with a one-night hotel stay, rewarding their creativity in bringing historical fashion back to life.

Beyond music and fashion, the Oldies Music Festival offers a meaningful reflection on the evolution of Rwandan and Pan-African culture.

The previous edition, held on July 26, 2025, also saw massive turnout, with Mugisha Emmanuel (Clapton Kibonge) emerging as the best-dressed winner.

Worldwide, festivals celebrating classic music and vintage style bring together people of all ages students of culture, longtime enthusiasts, fans, and artists. In Rwanda, the Oldies Music Festival continues to play an important role as a bridge between the past and the present. It not only showcases retro fashion but also highlights the artistic evolution and musical heritage that shape today’s creative landscape.
