Israel kills top Houthi military leader
Israel launched airstrikes in Yemen that killed the Chief of Staff of the Houthi armed forces, Major General Mohammed Abdulkarim al-Ghamari, following a temporary halt to its operations in Gaza.
This announcement was made on Thursday, October 16, 2025, shortly after Israel officially confirmed responsibility for the strike. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that al-Ghamari was killed in an airstrike carried out by Israeli military aircraft.
In their own statement, the Houthis declared that al-Ghamari's death would not weaken their resolve, emphasizing that their war with Israel is far from over and that Israel would be punished for its crimes.

Israel claims that in August of this year, it had conducted airstrikes targeting Houthi leaders in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, aiming to eliminate top figures including al-Ghamari, though he survived at the time. However, those strikes resulted in the death of the Houthi Prime Minister and other ministers.
Defense Minister Katz reiterated that Israel will continue to retaliate against anyone who threatens its security.
This development comes during a six-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, brokered with the help of the United States, Qatar, and other mediators.

The ceasefire temporarily halted a two-year war in Gaza, during which Israel has been accused of killing around 68,000 Palestinians, and causing severe humanitarian crises including denial of aid and medical care. Various experts have labeled Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide.
Currently, Palestine's future remains uncertain, but the United Kingdom and France have officially recognized Palestine as an independent state. While the United States has yet to do so, it has begun to scale back its support for Israel's operations in Gaza.
