Latest on the Rwanda–Congo agreement plan
President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo announced that he will travel to Washington, D.C. in the United States, where he will meet President Paul Kagame.
Tshisekedi made the announcement while speaking to Congolese nationals living in Belgrade, Serbia, where he was on a working visit, according to the Congolese presidency.
President Tshisekedi said: “I will go to Washington to confirm the agreement we signed with Rwanda under the auspices of the United States government, which has now been publicly released in a clear and transparent manner.”

However, President Tshisekedi insisted that there will never be any mixing or integration of the Congolese national army with any armed groups.
He added: “Regarding the agreement on regional economic integration, know that there is nothing new. Regional cooperation is something I have wanted since I took office, but we were betrayed in 2022.”

Tshisekedi also emphasized that implementing the agreement his country signed with Rwanda means respecting his country’s sovereignty, which, he said, must include “the withdrawal of Rwandan forces from Congolese territory” and restoring trust between the two countries.
Meanwhile, various media outlets continue to report that Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto will also attend the signing of these agreements, which will be officiated by President Donald Trump.
