According to information provided by civil society, the fighting occurred in two locations: one in the Runingu groupement and another in Luvungi-Itara.

The report stated: "In Uvira Territory, in Biriba village, Runingu groupement, fighting broke out between the rebel forces of General Nyerere and those of General Makanika between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. This fighting caused serious concern among the local population. The provisional number of injured is three."

Gunfire was reportedly heard around 4:00 p.m., attributed to fighters under Kiyaye and Kangadadi. A rapid intervention by the military helped restore calm. The official death toll includes only one person, a soldier.

Civil society is calling on the provincial government to urgently convene a strategic meeting with Wazalendo factions operating in the Ruzizi Valley, aimed at coordinating actions and preventing further violence.

Security continues to deteriorate in the DRC even as peace agreements are being signed between the M23 rebel group and the Kinshasa government, alongside accords involving Rwanda and the DRC.

M23 has repeatedly stated that it will take necessary measures to protect civilians whenever acts that threaten public safety and freedom persist.
