After two decades of shaping Rwanda’s music scene, Ishimwe Clement, the CEO and founder of KINA Music, is turning his attention to a new mission  building a strong foundation for music education in the country.

Rather than focusing solely on producing hit songs, Clement wants to nurture the next generation of industry professionals by creating a music training center that bridges the gap between talent and professionalism.

he said the idea comes from years of observing how many Rwandan artists struggle not because they lack talent, but because they lack the right knowledge to sustain their careers.
“My dream is to create a place where people can learn about the realities of the music industry  not just how to sing or produce,” he explained. “It will be a space for mentorship, creativity, and practical learning about how the industry actually works.”

The planned institution will go beyond traditional music lessons. It aims to cover areas such as music entrepreneurship, branding, investment, and digital marketing, all of which are crucial in today’s evolving entertainment landscape.

Clement’s vision is deeply rooted in his experience leading KINA Music, one of Rwanda’s most successful record labels. Under his guidance, artists like Tom Close, Platini, Nel Ngabo, and Butera Knowless have built strong careers. He has also worked with major names like Dream Boys, Christopher, and King James, contributing to many of Rwanda’s biggest hits.
Now celebrating 20 years in music production, Clement believes it is time to give back to the industry that shaped him. “I’ve spent years helping artists grow; now I want to help the whole industry grow,” he said.

Even before launching his own school, Clement has been sharing his expertise by offering lectures and mentorship at Rwanda’s national music school, where he is often invited to train aspiring producers and musicians.
Through his new initiative, Ishimwe Clement hopes to transform Rwandan music education from passion-driven to professionally structured  ensuring that the country’s musical talent is not only discovered but also developed to compete on global stages.
