Iran publicly executes man convicted of raping
In a rare public execution on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, Iran hanged a man convicted of raping two women in northern Semnan Province.
The execution was carried out in the city of Bastam after the Supreme Court upheld the sentence, according to the judiciary website Mizan Online.
The provincial court chief, Mohammad Akbari, said the trial was conducted transparently and the sentence implemented because it had been reviewed by the Supreme Court.

Authorities in the province stated that the man lured and forcibly assaulted two women, adding that he used “coercion and intimidation” in a way that would tarnish their public image.

Iran usually carries out such executions in prison rather than publicly, but this execution came two weeks after another man convicted of murder was publicly executed.
The Islamic Republic, which primarily uses hanging, is the second-highest executor of the death penalty in the world after China, according to human rights organizations including Amnesty International.
