“He Is the One We Connected With” Yampano Explains Why Zeo Trap Is the Sole Feature on His EP Inkanda
In an era where many emerging artists seek collaborations with already established stars to quickly boost visibility, Rwandan artist Yampano has chosen a different path. For his debut Extended Play project titled Inkanda, he features only one fellow artist: Zeo Trap.
It is a decision that may raise curiosity, especially at a time when strategic collaborations are often seen as the key to fast success in the streaming era. But for Yampano, popularity was not the priority. “He is the one we connected with. He fits the musical direction I wanted to take, as a new artist with extraordinary talent,” Yampano said
The singer explained that their collaboration was driven by a shared artistic vision and aligned creative values. “Zeo Trap is a fresh artist but truly gifted. We understood each other effortlessly, and in music, working with people who feel what you feel is essential,” he added.
Both young and ambitious, the two artists formed a partnership built on mutual respect and the exchange of fresh ideas, each contributing a unique flavor to the songs they created together.
Inkanda is composed of four tracks, all produced by Logic Hit. The titles draw inspiration from Rwandan culture while embracing modern soundscapes. The EP includes the songs “Rahabu,” “Imurenge,” “Rasita,” and “Umutima we.”
Yampano chose the title Inkanda because it symbolizes a unifying sound, blending diverse musical styles but rooted in Rwandan identity and everyday life. “It brings together Kinyarwanda music and global influences. It carries elements of Ikinimba, Afrobeat and Amapiano,” he explained.
Besides the four-song tracklist, the duo has another collaboration that will not appear on the EP. That separate single will be accompanied by a music video. “That one has its own space and special message, so we decided to release it independently,” he teased.
Throughout the creation of Inkanda, Yampano was also supported by Stone David, a fast-rising songwriter known for boosting new talents at the start of their careers. “Stone David is hardworking and passionate. Working with him showed me that loving what you do can take you far,” Yampano said.
Although the EP is complete, its official release date has not yet been announced as preparations continue with digital platforms.
Each song on the project, according to Yampano, carries a message resonating with real human experiences, from love and challenges of life to gratitude and spirituality.
With Inkanda, Yampano aims to showcase a bold artistic identity that bridges culture and modernity, rhythm and storytelling, creativity and real-life expression.
