Rwandan traditional music icon Muyango Jean Marie has withdrawn from Lionel Sentore’s upcoming album launch concert in Canada after receiving strict medical advice not to travel.

Muyango had originally been scheduled to join the lineup of artists supporting Sentore at the unveiling of his new album “Uwangabiye” in Montréal. However, sources say the veteran artist has been unwell for several days, and medication he recently started taking exacerbated a pre-existing health condition. Doctors then recommended that he avoid long-distance flights until he fully recovers.

As a result, Lionel Sentore will now share the stage with artists including Ikirezi Deborah and Daniel Ngarukiye, who are expected to energize the audience in his absence.

In a message shared with his fans, Muyango expressed regret for missing the event and encouraged Rwandans and the diaspora community in Canada to show strong support for Lionel Sentore during the concert.

Meanwhile, Sentore has already arrived in Canada, where he received a warm reception from his mother whom he had not seen in 13 years. His album launch concert is scheduled to take place in Montréal on December 13, 2025.

This performance follows his successful album showcase held in Kigali in July 2025. “Uwangabiye” features a rich collection of songs, including the title track “Uwangabiye”, “Umukobwa w’Abeza,” “Teta,” “I.U.O.A.E,” “Uko Bimeze” featuring Mike Kayihura, “Urera” with Elysee, “Mukandori” featuring Angela, “Urukundo” with Boule Mpanya, “Yanyuzuye Umutima,” and “Haguruka Ugende.”

Despite Muyango’s absence, organizers remain optimistic that the show will deliver an unforgettable celebration of Rwandan traditional music.
