Russia launched an attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, killing three people and injuring 32 others, according to the city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko.

Vitali said that two high-rise buildings were destroyed and that six children were among those injured in the attack. These new Russian strikes come as Moscow has renewed its assaults on civilians and energy infrastructure, with Ukrainian authorities reporting that nearly 1,200 drones were used in attacks over the past week.

Since the war between Russia and Ukraine began three years ago, Russia currently controls nearly one-fifth of Ukraine’s territory, including the Crimean region it annexed in 2014.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently appealed to his allies and partners for long-range weapons to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to counterattack, although he did not receive the support he had hoped for following his recent meetings at the White House and the EU summit.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced sanctions against Russia, stating that his planned talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin had reached a dead end and that he was canceling their scheduled meeting in Budapest.

However, late last week, Trump said he maintains a good relationship with Putin but emphasized that a meeting between them would only be possible if there were prospects for peace talks.
