After more than a decade abroad, celebrated Rwandan artist Kitoko Bibarwa has finally returned home, marking the end of a 12-year stay in the United Kingdom and the beginning of a new era in his musical and personal journey.

Kitoko, one of the pioneers who helped elevate Rwandan music onto the global stage, landed at Kigali International Airport early Sunday morning, November 9, 2025. His arrival drew an enthusiastic crowd of fans, family, and friends who braved the morning chill to welcome him back with flags, flowers, and cheers of joy. “I’m overwhelmed and truly happy to be home,” Kitoko said moments after stepping off the plane, visibly emotional but full of excitement. “It has been a long journey, but I’m ready to share love, music, and unforgettable moments with my people again.”

Waving the Rwandan flag handed to him at the airport, Kitoko expressed gratitude to his supporters and hinted at his next big stage appearance  a major concert alongside Nigerian superstar Davido, scheduled for December 15, 2025, in Kigali. “This is more than just a concert,” he said with a smile. “It’s a reunion  with my country, my fans, and the spirit of Rwandan music.”

A Homecoming with Purpose

For Kitoko, this return is not merely symbolic. Having lived in London for over a decade, he pursued both his music and academic ambitions abroad, performing across Europe, America, and the UK. Despite the physical distance, he remained a familiar name among Rwandans, representing his country with pride through his soulful performances and enduring hits.

But now, he says, it’s time to give back. “I realized the time had come to return home,” he told InyaRwanda in an earlier interview. “I want to build my music here, support upcoming artists, and contribute to the growth of our creative industry. Rwanda is where my heart truly belongs.”

A Catalyst for Rwanda’s Music Industry

Kitoko’s comeback has already stirred excitement across Rwanda’s entertainment scene. Many fans and fellow artists see his return as a powerful boost for the local industry, which has been regaining energy through live performances and collaborations after years of global disruption.

His presence, industry observers say, could inspire a new wave of artistic collaboration between Rwanda and the international music community  bridging cultures while reinforcing the country’s growing creative identity. “Kitoko is not just returning as a musician; he’s coming back as a cultural ambassador,” said one local music critic. “His international exposure and passion for homegrown talent could reshape how Rwandan music is perceived globally.”

The Legacy Continues

Over the years, Kitoko has carved a reputation for blending Afrobeat, R&B, and Rwandan traditional sounds into a modern, soulful style. His songs  often laced with messages of love, unity, and faith  continue to resonate with both local and diaspora audiences.

As Rwanda’s creative industry expands, Kitoko’s return feels like a full-circle moment  one that reconnects an artist to his roots while opening a new path for the next generation.

For many fans who gathered at Kanombe Airport, it wasn’t just about welcoming back a star; it was about witnessing a son of Rwanda coming home to rekindle a dream that never faded.

And as the country gears up for his grand stage performance in December, one thing is clear  Kitoko’s homecoming is more than a return. It’s a rebirth.
