Congolese soldier shot dead after attempting to kill his commander
A soldier in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s army (FARDC) was shot dead on Sunday, November 9, 2025, in Kavimvira, Uvira, after attempting to kill his commander, reportedly while under the influence of alcohol.
The incident took place in Kavimvira, in the city of Uvira, South Kivu Province, in eastern DRC, where the soldier is suspected to have been drunk.
A member of the civil society said: “A FARDC soldier, who was drunk, was killed after he tried to kill his commander using a grenade.”

According to Kiza Tiniko, the president of the Uvira Youth Association, the slain soldier accused “his fellow soldier of having an affair with his wife.”
Reports from non-governmental organizations indicate that the military’s disciplinary unit first tried to calm the soldier down to prevent him from committing the crime, but he refused to comply.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred, as in recent days another junior soldier killed the officer he was assigned to protect after failing to receive his bonus payment.
