Chelsea Hit by Cole Palmer Injury Blow Ahead of Brighton Clash
Chelsea have suffered a setback with forward Cole Palmer ruled out for up to three weeks after sustaining a groin injury during the defeat to Manchester United.
Palmer, who was substituted in the first half of last weekend’s match, was later seen with ice on his groin. Boss Enzo Maresca confirmed the 22-year-old, who wears the No. 20 shirt, will now undergo a short recovery period.
“We decided to protect Cole so his injury doesn’t get worse,” Maresca explained. “He will rest for two or three weeks before the international break to recover fully.”
The Italian coach added that Palmer does not require surgery, but emphasised the need to carefully manage his workload after an intense run of fixtures this season.
Chelsea’s injury concerns extend beyond Palmer. Defender Tosin Adarabioyo is sidelined until after the international break with a calf issue, while Wesley Fofana is doubtful following a concussion in midweek’s Carabao Cup win over Lincoln City.
The Blues, winless in their last two league matches, face Brighton on Saturday. Palmer’s absence is a major blow as they look to climb the Premier League table and regain momentum.
Chelsea’s No. 20 will miss crucial games against Brighton, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace before the international break. The club hope to have him fit for their return against Liverpool in late October.
