Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo could finally seal a January move to Napoli, with talks accelerating over a potential loan that would give the England international the regular minutes he craves.

Kobbie Mainoo’s Manchester United future remains uncertain as reports suggest Napoli are ready to revive their long-standing interest in the young midfielder ahead of the January window.

The Serie A champions are understood to be in fresh talks with Mainoo’s representatives after missing out during the summer. Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that a loan deal is now being seriously considered.

Mainoo has played just 113 Premier League minutes under new boss Ruben Amorim this season and is said to be frustrated by the lack of opportunities in midfield.

Napoli boss Antonio Conte is pushing for a quick agreement, seeing Mainoo as a key addition to bolster his options alongside former United man Scott McTominay.

McTominay’s move to Naples last year was seen as a risk, but he quickly became a fan favourite and helped guide the club to another strong Serie A campaign.

United had previously rejected Mainoo’s request to leave, with Amorim insisting the youngster should “fight for his place.” But with competition fierce and Amorim under pressure for results, the situation could soon change.

If the deal goes through, Mainoo would join a growing list of United academy graduates making their mark abroad including Mason Greenwood in Spain and Hannibal Mejbri in France.

The move could also help the 20-year-old regain his rhythm ahead of England’s next international window, as Gareth Southgate continues to monitor his development.

For decades, Manchester United has prided themselves on producing top midfield talents from Paul Scholes to Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick. Mainoo’s situation reflects a new era at Old Trafford: one where academy stars increasingly seek experience abroad rather than wait for a chance at home.
