Accra’s iconic Black Star (Independence) Square turned into a sea of excitement and energy on Saturday, October 18, 2025, as Shatta Wale hosted one of the biggest concerts in Ghana’s music history  “Shatta Fest 2025 x Shattabration: The King Calls.”

Tens of thousands of jubilant fans filled the Square and overflowed into nearby streets, transforming the capital into a glowing spectacle of music, dance, and unity. The free concert, held to mark the Dancehall King’s birthday, was a celebration of gratitude, creativity, and unmatched showmanship.

Although the show officially kicked off at 4:00 p.m., the crowd had begun gathering hours earlier. By sunset, every space around Independence Square was jam-packed with fans dressed mostly in white  a color symbolizing peace and appreciation. Speaking to the crowd, Shatta Wale, whose birthday fell on October 17, said the event was his way of giving back to the fans who have supported him through his musical journey.

The star-studded night featured electrifying performances from some of Ghana’s biggest names  Sarkodie, Samini, Wendy Shay, Medikal, Kelvynboy, Amerado, DarkoVibes, Tinny, JZyNo, Kwame Yogot, and DopeNation, among others. Each act brought explosive energy that kept the massive audience on their feet well into the early hours of Sunday.
One of the most emotional highlights came when Shatta Wale paused his performance to honour veteran rapper Tinny, presenting him with a special citation and delivering a heartfelt message of appreciation for his support during Wale’s early career. The “Ayoo” hitmaker also made headlines for diplomatically reconciling Nigerian influencers Peller and Big Jiggy on stage  a moment that drew loud cheers from the crowd.

The show concluded at around 7:05 a.m. on Sunday, after more than twelve hours of nonstop performances and celebrations. Powered by MoMo Fest (Mobile Money Ghana Limited) and supported by Shaxi and Charterhouse, the event has since dominated social media, with fans and critics alike praising Shatta Wale’s unmatched ability to command massive crowds and deliver a high-energy spectacle.

Born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., Shatta Wale has solidified his place as one of Africa’s most influential reggae-dancehall icons. Known for hit songs like “Dancehall King,” “My Level,” and “Taking Over,” he continues to shape Ghana’s musical identity on the global stage  a journey that reached new heights when he collaborated with Beyoncé on “Already.”
With Shatta Fest 2025, the Dancehall King once again proved that his connection with fans remains powerful, unbreakable, and deeply rooted in the spirit of African music and pride.
