On the morning of Sunday, November 23, 2025, fighting broke out again between the AFC/M23 group and the Wazalendo group.

The clashes took place near Nyabiondo in the Osso Banyungu sector of Masisi in North Kivu, where the Wazalendo, aligned with the APCLS (Alliance of Patriots for a Free and Sovereign Congo), exchanged fire with M23.

Local sources confirmed that the violence forced some residents to flee due to the loud gunfire and explosions.

At a time when there are ongoing discussions to end the conflict between M23 and the Congolese government, clashes have repeatedly occurred between the government or its allies and M23.

In recent days, the Congolese government has been using unmanned aircraft known as drones to confront M23 and attempt to regain control of areas previously captured in both Kivu regions.

In an effort to promote peace in eastern Congo, on Thursday, November 21, 2025, Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, visited the Democratic Republic of Congo after a visit to Rwanda.

However, sources closely monitoring regional security issues say that the Emir’s visit was not solely about promoting reconciliation between countries but also included other important matters.

A summit between the two countries’ leaders, which was supposed to be presided over by U.S. President Donald Trump, had also recently been postponed.
