A non-league football match in the Isthmian League was postponed just minutes before kick-off after a manager was left with facial injuries following a serious incident at the ground.

Potters Bar Town were due to face Welling United at Park View Road on Saturday afternoon, but the fixture was called off around half an hour before the scheduled start time when Potters Bar manager Sammy Moore required medical attention.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident, with police attending the scene shortly after. The Metropolitan Police later confirmed that a man had been arrested in connection with the altercation.

In a statement released on the day of the incident, Potters Bar Town said the decision to abandon the match was taken following police involvement. The club confirmed that their manager was receiving appropriate medical care and that they were offering him full support while the matter is investigated.

Police said officers were called to Welling Football Club at 13:18hrs following reports of an altercation between two men. A 38-year-old man was found with injuries to his face, while a 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in custody.

Due to the seriousness of the situation, the incident has been referred to the Isthmian League and The Football Association. League officials have confirmed they are awaiting written reports before determining any further action.

Nick Robinson, chair of the Isthmian League, said the league was aware of the situation but could not comment further while the matter remains under review.

Both clubs sit near the bottom of the Isthmian League table this season. Welling United are currently 20th after collecting 15 points from their opening 20 matches, while Potters Bar Town remain bottom with 11 points.

Despite the disruption, both teams are expected to return to action in the coming days. Potters Bar Town are scheduled to play Chatham on Tuesday evening, while Welling United travel to Lewes next weekend.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
