Alisson vows private talks with Salah as Liverpool turmoil deepens ahead of Inter clash
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker says he intends to speak privately with Mohamed Salah after the forward’s explosive weekend interview, but insists the squad must remain focused on Today’s Champions League tie against Inter Milan.
Salah was omitted from the travelling squad for the crucial group-stage fixture after publicly accusing the club of “throwing him under the bus” and admitting his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had broken down. Despite training as normal on Monday, Salah was informed he would not be included in the matchday party.
Slot downplayed the significance of their conversation, calling it “short,” but confirmed deeper discussions would be held once the team returns from Italy. The manager also said he only became aware of the extent of Salah’s grievances on Saturday evening.
Speaking to reporters, Alisson revealed he had not yet addressed the issue with Salah but plans to do so away from the public eye.
“We haven’t spoken about the interview,” the Brazilian said. “We’re together every day, and of course there’s a bond there. I’ll talk to him privately. It’s a difficult situation for everyone.”
Alisson praised Salah’s legacy at Anfield but admitted the dispute has caused ripples within the dressing room. “Mo has been huge for this club and for me personally. None of us want to see disruptions, especially before a big game. But our responsibility is to stay focused.”
Salah is due to join Egypt’s national team for the Africa Cup of Nations on 15 December, leaving a slim window for any resolution. Although Slot refused to guarantee Salah’s immediate future involvement, he insisted there is “always a way back” for a player.
Alisson echoed that sentiment, expressing hope that the winger’s Liverpool career is not nearing an abrupt end. “I hope he plays for us again. He spoke his mind about his situation now it’s about how everyone responds.”
The fallout stems from Salah’s growing frustration at being named on the bench in recent games. After remaining unused during Liverpool’s 3–3 draw with Leeds, he voiced confusion over his reduced role, saying he felt unfairly blamed despite assurances over playing time when he signed his two-year extension last season.
With tensions rising and speculation intensifying over his long-term future, Liverpool finds themselves managing a delicate internal conflict at a pivotal point in their season.
