Renowned Rwandan musician and director of the Rwanda School of Creative Arts and Music, Murigande Jacques, popularly known as Mighty Popo, has unexpectedly changed the venue for the premiere of his latest film only hours before the event was set to take place.

The film, titled “Killer Music, Chapter 1: Blood Bird, The Saga,” was first premiered at Century Cinema in September 2025, in a private screening attended by Mighty Popo’s close friends and key figures in Rwanda’s entertainment industry.

Initially, the filmmaker had planned to hold a public screening at Mundi Center on October 16, 2025, with an entry fee of 5,000 Rwandan francs per person. However, following last-minute disagreements with the management of the venue, the event was relocated to Institut Français du Rwanda.

Mighty Popo expressed disappointment with how the Mundi Center administration handled the matter.“At the last minute, the management at Mundi Center asked us to cancel the event we had already organized. Imagine, they told me to postpone it simply because one of their staff members was not available. That’s why we decided to move the screening to another location,” he explained.

The film Killer Music, Chapter 1: Blood Bird, The Saga explores the journey of musicians through various stages of their lives from the moment one decides to pursue music, to achieving fame, and the challenges that come with it, including the nightlife struggles in the entertainment world.

The storyline is built around the experiences of artists striving to make a name for themselves in the music industry. It features elements of action, romance, dance, and powerful musical performances, placing it in the Musical Drama category. The film runs for two hours and is entirely in English.
The screenplay was written by Mighty Popo himself, while cinematography was handled by Anirban Mitra, a filmmaker from India.
Despite the unexpected venue change, excitement around Mighty Popo’s new project remains high among Rwandan film and music enthusiasts, many of whom see this production as a major step in bridging Rwanda’s music and film industries.
