The M23 rebel group has reportedly shot down a Congolese army CH-4 combat drone in Masisi Territory, North Kivu Province, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

The Congolese army had recently been using these drones, purchased from China, to launch attacks on M23 positions and in densely populated civilian areas.

The spokesperson for AFC/M23, Lawrence Kanyuka, announced on Tuesday morning that during the previous night, the coalition of the Congolese government forces used those drones to carry out attacks in the Luki area, located in Masisi Territory.

On Tuesday afternoon, using his X (formerly Twitter) account, Kanyuka stated that government forces were continuing their drone attacks in Masisi, adding that “AFC/M23 is currently protecting civilians targeted by Kinshasa government troops.”

It is reported that M23 has now shot down the drone, while a few days ago, AFC deputy coordinator Bertrand Bisimwa told journalists that they were preparing to start shooting down such drones, as they have the capability to do so after previously downing two others.
