DRC President: Trump should receive top peace award if he Unites Rwanda and Congo!
The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, has said that if Donald Trump manages to reconcile Rwanda and Congo (leading them to a peace agreement), he would deserve to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Congolese president made this statement in New York, United States, during an interview with Bloomberg. He is currently in the U.S. attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Donald Trump has played a significant role in facilitating the signing of agreements between Rwanda and Congo aimed at restoring lasting security in the Great Lakes region where both countries are located, although the implementation of the agreements signed in June 2025 appears to be delayed.
President Tshisekedi said: “This war has lasted 30 years, and four American presidents have been involved without producing results in bringing peace.”
Trump’s administration has shown cooperation between the U.S., DRC, and Rwanda in seeking solutions to the long-standing security issues in the region. However, the U.S. also has strategic interests in the DRC, including access to natural resources used in technology, energy, and defense industries, as well as efforts to curb China’s dominance in the global trade of critical minerals.
Aside from the Rwanda-Congo peace agreement, Tshisekedi is engaged in negotiations with M23 rebel group to halt fighting, although these talks have been hampered by Israeli airstrikes in Doha at the beginning of September 2025.
Beyond Tshisekedi, other leaders including Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Heydar Oghlu Aliyev, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Gabonese President Oligui Nguema, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the Government of Pakistan have also expressed support for the idea of Trump receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.
