Kecapu and Bamenya Take Home Cars at 11th Mashariki Film Festival
In a thrilling conclusion to the 11th Mashariki Film Festival, Mukayizeri Djalia, popularly known as Kecapu, and Benimana Ramadhan, widely known as Bamenya, emerged as the top winners, each earning a brand-new Hyundai Sonata.
In the women’s category, Kecapu secured first place with 70,208 votes, while Uwamahoro Antoinette, also known as Intare y’Ingore, came in second with 32,317 votes.
On the men’s side, Bamenya dominated the competition, collecting 80,748 votes, leaving Aime Valens Tuyisenge, famously called Boss Rukundo, in second place with 14,320 votes.
The total votes cast for the female contestants reached 126,948, equivalent to FRW 25,389,600, whereas the male category accumulated 120,432 votes, valued at FRW 24,086,400. Altogether, the festival garnered 247,380 votes, corresponding to FRW 49,476,000.
As the grand prize, both Kecapu and Bamenya will drive away in Hyundai Sonata vehicles, each valued at FRW 13 million, bringing the total value of the prizes to FRW 26 million.
The festival, which kicked off on November 22, will conclude this Friday, November 29, 2025, at the Kigali Serena Hotel, celebrating the best in East African cinema.
