Congolese army Captain shot dead by own bodyguard in North Kivu
A Congolese army captain was shot dead by his own bodyguard in North Kivu Province, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, on Friday, October 31, 2025.
The incident occurred in Ngululu, located in the Masisi Territory of North Kivu Province, after a disagreement between the two, leading the bodyguard to open fire, killing the officer instantly.
Reports indicate that the conflict arose over a dispute involving bonus payments, as the officer accused his bodyguard of embezzling the money instead of giving him his share, sparking a heated argument that ended in the shooting.

According to the news outlet actualite.cd, residents fled the area in fear following the officer’s death.
Further reports state that the bodyguard was later apprehended by fellow soldiers and is expected to be brought before a military court to face justice for the killing.
At present, the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo remains plagued by ongoing fighting and insecurity, largely caused by Wazalendo militias fighting alongside the Congolese army.

Meanwhile, the AFC/M23 rebel group continues to engage Congolese military aircraft, including drones, as it seeks to recapture territories it previously controlled.
However, peace efforts are ongoing, both in Doha and through talks mediated by the United States, aimed at restoring stability between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
