Rwandan Singer Davis D Travels with His Father to Perform in Bukavu, a City Controlled by M23
Rwandan singer Icyishaka Davis, popularly known as Davis D, has made history once again as he travels to Bukavu, a city in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) currently under the control of the M23 rebel group, for his first-ever concert there.
The artist left Kigali early Friday morning, accompanied by his father, his manager Bernard Bagenzi, Uhujimfura Claude (manager of fellow artist Bwiza), and Amani Africa, the concert organizer.
Speaking to local media before his departure, Davis D described the moment as deeply meaningful to him, noting that it marks the first time he has traveled with his father for a professional engagement.
“This is a two-day concert on Friday and Saturday, November 1, 2025. We are a team of five, and it’s an honor for me to travel with my father. It’s something very special,” he said.
He added that his team expects the event to go smoothly, highlighting that the show has been professionally organized with support from local Congolese security authorities to ensure safety.
Bukavu: A City of Beauty and Conflict
Located on the shores of Lake Kivu and bordering Rwanda’s Rusizi District, Bukavu is the capital of South Kivu Province a region known for its breathtaking hills and economic potential, but also for years of insecurity and armed conflict.
Since February 14, 2025, the city has been under the control of the M23 movement after intense fighting with the Congolese army. The rebel occupation has disrupted trade and normal life in the area, making Davis D’s visit particularly remarkable and symbolic.
This concert makes Davis D the first Rwandan artist to perform in Bukavu since its capture by M23, marking a rare cultural exchange moment amid a tense political and security landscape.
A Rising Star with Regional Influence
Over the past few years, Davis D has become one of Rwanda’s most celebrated artists in the region, known for hits such as Biryogo, Micro, Itara, Hennessy, and Eva. His music, often centered on love and youth empowerment, has earned him a loyal following across East Africa.
By staging a concert in Bukavu, Davis D continues to strengthen his identity as a cross-border cultural ambassador, using his platform to promote unity and entertainment even in areas grappling with instability.
