Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi amid growing tension between the player and manager Niko Kovac, sources have indicated.

Adeyemi, 23, has endured a turbulent start to the Bundesliga season, and reports in Germany suggest his relationship with Kovac has become strained following a series of public disagreements over attitude and form.

The winger was seen throwing a bottle toward the bench after being substituted in last month’s win over Köln an incident that reportedly infuriated the Dortmund boss.

United’s recruitment team, led by sporting director Dan Ashworth, are believed to have been briefed on Adeyemi’s situation as Rúben Amorim continues to explore attacking reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window.

Although United invested heavily in forwards Benjamin Šeško, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha over the summer, Amorim is understood to be open to adding further pace and versatility in wide areas.

Adeyemi, who joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022, has managed three goals and three assists across all competitions this term but has struggled to maintain consistency. His agent, Jorge Mendes, is reportedly in discussions over a new deal that could include a £70 million release clause, with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain both monitoring developments.

While Adeyemi remains under contract until 2027, insiders suggest Dortmund could listen to offers if tensions persist particularly if the player pushes for a move before Euro 2026. Amorim has previously worked with Mendes on several high-profile transfers and maintains a strong relationship with the Portuguese agent.

Manchester United are expected to prioritise a new midfielder in January with Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Carlos Baleba among the names being tracked but the club is also preparing for potential opportunities should Adeyemi become available at the right price.

A United source told Mirror Football: “Adeyemi’s talent isn’t in doubt it’s about timing and temperament. If Dortmund can’t resolve things, he won’t be short of options.”

For now, Adeyemi remains part of Dortmund’s plans, but with the January window fast approaching, both player and club face a crucial decision over what comes next.
