On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Meru Court is expected to announce its decision on whether to release or continue detaining a Catholic nun accused of involvement in a murder case.

The nun is suspected of killing her fellow sister, according to Kenyan media outlets, especially those reporting on religious affairs.

Sister Caroline Kanjiru is being held for her alleged role in the murder of Sister Ansilime Karimi from the Nkabune area.

Police officer Abdul Tulla, who has been following up on the case, told the court that Sister Caroline should remain in custody, arguing that she is a flight risk. However, the nun herself requested to be allowed to face trial while out on bail.

The court heard that the nun had initially told investigators that the deceased, whom she said she was taking to Nkubu Hospital, died on the way there. However, investigations revealed that the victim had injuries on her arms and legs, suggesting a different cause of death.

Officer Tulla asked the court to extend the nun’s detention for 14 more days to allow further investigation.

However, Sister Caroline’s lawyer requested her release on bail, assuring the court that she would not flee and would attend court sessions whenever summoned.

It is highly unusual to hear of members of religious orders being involved in such cases especially one allegedly harming a fellow nun who shared the same calling and mission of teaching good morals and harmonious living.
