The two-day fighting between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and the Wazalendo militia in the Uvira area of South Kivu Province has reportedly left 11 people dead.

The information was released after a ceasefire was reached on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, following two days of clashes between FARDC and Wazalendo.

Reports from the city of Uvira also indicate that activities which had been suspended due to the fighting have resumed, after widespread fear caused by the sound of heavy gunfire.

The clashes pitted FARDC against its allies from the Wazalendo militia, with whom it normally collaborates in the fight against the AFC/M23 coalition that opposes the Congolese government.

Radio Okapi reports that nine people were killed on Sunday and two others wounded, with two more dying on Monday.

Information indicates that among those killed in the fighting were government soldiers, Wazalendo combatants, and civilians who were hit by bullets fired from both sides.

The ongoing clashes between FARDC and this Wazalendo faction stem from disputes over control and authority in Uvira.

Some Wazalendo fighters are accused of defying orders issued by FARDC, which holds command authority in their joint operations against AFC/M23.
