The party of former Democratic Republic of Congo president Joseph Kabila has been suspended in a crackdown that has seen 12 political parties across the country banned.

The announcement was made on Friday, October 31, 2025, by Interior Minister Jacquemain Shaban.

Other dissolved parties include LGD, led by former Prime Minister Augustin Matata Mponyo; UDA, led by former MP Claude Lubaya; and Piste, led by Seth Kikuni.

Also among them are AAP, led by former Interior Minister Theophile Mbemba; MCPR, led by Jean Claude Vuemba; ATD, led by Joseph Makila, former Governor of Équateur Province; and MLP, led by Franck Diongo, among others.

Minister Shaban said the parties were accused of “violating several fundamental principles governing political organizations, including safeguarding national unity, sovereignty, and security.”

He requested that the Constitutional Court formally dissolve the parties, in accordance with provisions of the law regulating political organizations.

The bans come just days after the leaders of these parties met in Nairobi, Kenya, where they launched a coalition called “Sauvons la RDC” (Save the DRC)  an alliance opposing President Félix Tshisekedi’s government and reportedly led by Kabila.

Joseph Kabila was recently sentenced to death by Congolese courts on charges of treason, after allegedly aligning himself with areas controlled by the M23 rebels and launching what he called a campaign to “restore order in Congo.”
