Congo: Ex-Candidate backs AFC/M23
Olivier Rumenge Rugeyo, a former parliamentary candidate in Fizi territory, has reappeared publicly, declaring that he supports the AFC/M23/MRDP-Twirwaneho coalition, saying it is the only solution for communities that have suffered injustice for years in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Rumenge said they are present in Uvira and that their main objective is to defend civilians who continue to face abuse, killings and discrimination, which he blamed on the FARDC army, the Wazalendo militia and Burundian forces.
Rumenge explained that the coalition he supports does not seek to take over state power but aims to liberate people who have been stripped of dignity and forced to live in constant danger.
He added: “AFC/M23/MRDP-Twirwaneho came as the answer for Congolese citizens. We will not abandon our people. They are calling us from different regions all the way to Kinshasa. We will reach there too!”
He again criticised President Félix Tshisekedi’s government, accusing it of embezzling state resources, fueling discrimination and injustice, and destroying public confidence among citizens hoping for change.
Regarding the Washington agreement between the DRC and Rwanda, Rumenge said it does not concern him, arguing that it does not address the real problems people are facing, including beatings, arbitrary detention and torture.
He also announced that on Saturday a “Meeting Populaire” will be held in Uvira, aimed at clearly communicating their message and presenting their goal of returning power to the people.
