The role is a deeply personal one for the Oscar winner, who underwent a preventive double mastectomy in 2013 after testing positive for the BRCA1 gene. Jolie has spoken openly about the loss of her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who passed away from ovarian and breast cancer in 2007, as well as her aunt and grandmother, who battled the same illness.
