Cristiano Ronaldo has once again etched his name into football history, becoming the first player to reach 800 career club goals, surpassing long time rival Lionel Messi in the process.

The Portuguese forward, who turned 40 in February, scored his landmark goal during Al-Nassr’s emphatic 5-1 victory over Al-Fateh in the Saudi Pro League. It marked Ronaldo's 1,061st club appearance and his 99th goal for Al-Nassr since joining the club in December 2022.

Ronaldo's historic strike came shortly after returning from international duty with Portugal, where he earned his 225th cap and netted his 143rd international goal. Despite João Félix stealing headlines with a hat-trick in the same match, all eyes were on Ronaldo as he hit yet another record.

Now sitting on 99 goals for Al-Nassr, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is on the brink of yet another record. Should he score one more, he would become the first player in history to score 100 goals for four different clubs, having already done so for Manchester United (145 goals), Real Madrid (450), and Juventus (101).

According to Transfermarkt data, no other player has matched this feat, reinforcing Ronaldo's status as one of football’s most prolific scorers.

Ronaldo began his professional career at Sporting CP, scoring five goals in 31 appearances before sealing a €19 million move to Manchester United in 2003. Under Sir Alex Ferguson’s guidance, he blossomed into a global superstar, eventually leaving Old Trafford for Real Madrid in 2009 in a then-world record €117 million deal.

At Real Madrid, Ronaldo hit previously unimaginable numbers, scoring 450 goals in just 438 games  more than a goal per match and helping the Spanish giants to four Champions League titles.

A move to Juventus followed in 2018, where he netted 101 goals in 134 matches and led the club to back-to-back Serie A titles.

While Messi continues to impress in the MLS with Inter Miami recently netting a hat-trick in a 5-2 win over Nashville  his overall club tally of 781 goals still trails Ronaldo’s 800. Despite their differing paths, the rivalry between the two icons continues to captivate fans worldwide.

Now valued at €12 million and under contract with Al-Nassr until 2027, Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down. With his sights reportedly set on reaching 1,000 career goals, the legendary striker could be rewriting record books for years to come.
