Rodrygo Breaks Silence on Arsenal and Liverpool Links, Reaffirms Desire to Stay at Real Madrid
Real Madrid star Rodrygo insists he will only leave the club if he is no longer wanted, cooling speculation over potential moves to Arsenal or Liverpool.
Brazilian winger Rodrygo has shut down ongoing rumors about his future, declaring his commitment to Real Madrid despite being linked with Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool during the summer. The 24-year-old revealed that while there were offers, he has no plans to leave the Santiago Bernabéu unless the club itself decides to move him on.
Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, Rodrygo said: “Every summer the same thing happens, talks about whether I’m leaving or have offers. Of course, there are always offers, but I’ve always made it clear to the club that I want to keep succeeding here. It’s a lot to have already won two Champions Leagues at my age, but I want more in this shirt.”
The Brazilian forward, who joined Madrid in 2019 from Santos, has made only two starts in all competitions this season as competition for attacking spots intensifies under new coach Xabi Alonso.
Despite the reduced minutes, Rodrygo emphasized his satisfaction with life in Madrid, adding: “As long as Real Madrid wants me, I’ll be here. If one day they say, ‘Rodry, find a team,’ I’ll say ‘OK.’ But that hasn’t happened.”
He also revealed a private conversation with Alonso following the Club World Cup, where the manager discussed positional flexibility. “He told me he needed me in different roles,” Rodrygo explained. “Everyone knows I prefer the left wing, but I’ll play wherever the team needs me. Lately, he’s been using me more on the left, and I’m happy with that.”
Rodrygo’s remarks come amid speculation that Arsenal could revisit their interest next summer, despite already strengthening their attack with Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace. Liverpool, meanwhile, opted for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak in a record-breaking move.
With nearly three years left on his contract, Rodrygo remains determined to extend his trophy-laden career in Madrid. “I’m in a process of evolution,” he said. “I’m playing better, I feel happy, and I know more success will come.”
