Man Utd Hold Crisis Talks as Pressure Mounts on Ruben Amorim
Manchester United has held internal discussions with senior players amid mounting pressure on manager Ruben Amorim’s future, according to reports.
The club’s hierarchy including co-owner Joel Glazer, CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth met during the international break to review the team’s poor start to the season. Amorim, who took charge in November 2024, has struggled to deliver consistent results.
United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town and have yet to record an away league win this season. They currently sit 10th in the Premier League, two points outside the top six.
Sources say captain Bruno Fernandes and other senior players were consulted about dressing-room morale. While club officials described the talks as “routine”, the move has fuelled speculation that Amorim’s position is under review.
The situation echoes last year’s seven-hour crisis meeting that preceded Erik ten Hag’s dismissal. Amorim, 40, is approaching his first anniversary in charge but faces growing scrutiny from both fans and the board.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who owns just fewer than 30 per cent of the club and controls football operations, has publicly backed the Portuguese coach. He told The Business Podcast that Amorim “needs to show he’s a great coach over three years.”
Even so, frustrations among supporters continue to rise over both performances and ownership, with protests again taking place at Old Trafford earlier this year.
United’s next fixtures include tough tests against Liverpool, Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham a stretch that could determine Amorim’s future in the dugout.
Historically, managerial instability has haunted Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. From David Moyes to Ten Hag, no successor has lasted beyond three seasons and Amorim now faces the same test that has undone them all.
