M23 Rebels Seize Kasheke and Bituna in North Kivu
AFC/M23 rebels seized the villages of Kasheke and Bituna in Osso Banyungu Sector, Masisi Territory in North Kivu after an overnight offensive that overpowered Wazalendo militia forces.
The M23 group achieved this after defeating the Wazalendo militia, which operates alongside the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), in intense fighting.
Reports indicate that the rebels have now taken over all the camps abandoned by the Wazalendo militia in Kasheke and Bituna. The Wazalendo fighters retreated toward Kautu, where they linked up with government troops.
