Liverpool Linked with Ambitious Jude Bellingham Swap as Mohamed Salah Future Faces New Twist
With the January transfer window approaching, Liverpool finds themselves at the centre of two major storylines: a sensational potential move for Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham, and renewed questions over the future of club icon Mohamed Salah.
Despite a recent dip in form at Real Madrid, Jude Bellingham remains one of Europe’s most valuable young talents. However, sections of the Spanish media have become increasingly critical of the England star amid Real’s recent struggles, with Xabi Alonso’s side dropping points in three consecutive league matches.
Spanish outlet Defensa Central now claims Liverpool could look to capitalise by preparing a summer 2026 proposal, reportedly involving Alexis Mac Allister moving in the opposite direction. Real Madrid has long admired Mac Allister, and the World Cup winner is said to be among their preferred midfield profiles.
Given the financial imbalance between the players Bellingham’s contract runs until 2029, while Mac Allister’s expires in 2028 Liverpool would likely need to add a substantial cash fee to complete any deal. Sources close to both clubs insist the story remains speculative, though interest from Liverpool has not been completely dismissed.
Mohamed Salah was dropped for Liverpool’s 2–0 victory over West Ham last weekend, fuelling renewed speculation about his long-term future. The Egyptian forward watched from the bench as Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo secured a crucial win for Arne Slot.
Salah’s omission reignited talk of Saudi Arabian interest, especially after reports earlier this year suggested he rejected huge offers to extend his contract at Anfield.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, however, insists Liverpool have delivered a “very clear” internal message: no player will be judged solely on Liverpool’s poor run of recent form or no decision on Salah’s future will be made until after the Africa Cup of Nations
Salah joins Egypt later this month for AFCON, offering a temporary pause to the noise surrounding him. Both the club and the player are expected to reassess the situation once he returns.
Despite the uncertainty, Liverpool’s hierarchy reportedly believes Salah deserves a send-off befitting one of the greatest players in their modern history. However, whether he earns that farewell now depends heavily on what happens during the second half of the season.
