Nigerian Afropop star Paul Okoye, better known as Rudeboy from the iconic duo P-Square, has announced plans to sue a social media user who accused him of raping a former domestic worker.

The allegation surfaced just days after the 25th birthday celebration of Okoye’s wife, Ifeoma, on September 23, 2025. While the couple’s lavish festivities drew admiration online, the mood shifted when posts began circulating on X (formerly Twitter) claiming infidelity.

One account accused Okoye of sleeping with a housemaid, while another went further, alleging rape and abuse. The thread, which spread rapidly, portrayed the singer in disparaging terms and claimed the incident forced his wife and her sister out of the family home.

Okoye’s Outburst

Breaking from his usual silence on such matters, Okoye responded with a fiery statement, vowing to track down the accuser known as @Chubbydiva.

“I hardly reply, but this one, @chubbydiva if you like, go private, leave X, I will find you. I will use every necessary means, power, resources, and money. You will face the law, and I’ll make an example of you. The only escape is to leave this earth and relocate to space,” Okoye declared.

Soon after his post, the account in question disappeared from the platform. However, the singer stressed that deactivation would not prevent him from pursuing justice.

Free Speech vs. Defamation

The case has reignited debate over the thin line between opinion and defamation online. While Nigeria’s Constitution guarantees freedom of expression, it does not protect falsehoods that damage reputations.

Legal commentators point out that defamatory claims disguised as “opinions” are increasingly common against celebrities in Nigeria’s digital space. Similar cases have seen artists like Burna Boy, actress Eniola Badmus, and most recently Dayo Amusa, turn to the courts.

With Okoye vowing to proceed with legal action, the dispute highlights how unverified claims on social media can carry serious real-world consequences.
