On Sunday, November 24, 2025, in the city of Uvira in South Kivu, clashes erupted between the Democratic Republic of Congo’s army (FARDC) and Wazalendo fighters, leaving four government soldiers dead.

These clashes occurred at the same time that fighting was taking place in Walikale territory between FARDC and M23, which resulted in government forces losing control of the town of Buhimba.

The FARDC spokesperson in South Kivu, Lt. Reagan Kalonji Mbuyi, stated that the fighting followed chaos started by Wazalendo fighters who first fired shots in the city, causing panic in Uvira.
