The son of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Anthony Tshisekedi, has reportedly shot and killed a worker at a nightclub.

Reports indicate that President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi’s son opened fire on the nightclub employee, killing him instantly, after which his family hurriedly offered $20,000 (about 29 million Rwandan francs) in an attempt to silence the matter.

The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday last week at Nuovo Nightclub, located in the upscale Gombe district of the capital, Kinshasa.

Sources say the nightclub is owned by the son of Bahati Lukwebo, a prominent Congolese politician who once served as the President of the Senate.

According to investigative journalist Steve Wembi, who posted about the incident on his X (formerly Twitter) and  reported by   'Bwiza'    Anthony Tshisekedi, commonly known as “The Prince of Congo,” allegedly caused chaos in the nightclub after spotting his ex-girlfriend with another man. Moments later, he reportedly pulled out a gun and shot a staff member dead on the spot.

Other reports suggest that following the shooting, the Tshisekedi family approached the victim’s relatives and offered $20,000 as compensation in an effort to suppress and cover up the case.

Eyewitnesses also said that several other people present were assaulted and seriously injured during the chaos sparked by the president’s son, Anthony Tshisekedi.

If confirmed, this incident would rank among the most troubling scandals to hit President Tshisekedi’s administration in recent years, further fueling concerns over impunity and lack of accountability among the DRC’s top leadership.
