Backstage Confusion Leaves Liliane Mbabazi Unable to Perform With Kitoko at Davido’s Concert
What was meant to be a celebratory moment for Rwandan music at Davido’s concert in BK Arena ended in disappointment for singer Kitoko and his collaborator Liliane Mbabazi, after a stage-management mix-up denied them the chance to perform their duet, “I Love You.”
Kitoko, who was performing in BK Arena for the first time and returning to Rwanda after relocating permanently from the U.K., expressed immense joy at being back home. He praised the country, its leadership, and its people, emphasizing that national progress depends not only on strong governance but also on citizens who play their part.
After delivering his remarks, he moved straight into his song “Thank You Kagame,” which drew enthusiastic cheers from the packed arena. But as the applause settled, it became clear that something had gone wrong behind the scenes.
Although Liliane Mbabazi had already been lifted onto the stage in anticipation of performing their joint song, Kitoko was ushered off by the event’s hosts before the duet could begin. Realizing she had been brought out prematurely and left without a performance slot, Kitoko returned to the hosts to request at least one more song with Mbabazi but his plea was rejected.
Visibly disappointed, Kitoko left the stage and headed backstage, repeatedly apologizing to Mbabazi for a situation he did not control. Mbabazi reassured him, saying, “It’s not your fault, Kitoko I saw what happened.”
The mishap left many questioning the event’s coordination, as a moment that could have showcased a beloved collaboration was lost to poor stage management. Despite the setback, both artists handled the incident with grace, emphasizing professionalism and mutual respect.
