Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario has sparked fresh debate in the football world after claiming Cristiano Ronaldo is not the greatest player of all time despite acknowledging the Portuguese star’s remarkable career and ranking him among the top ten in history.

Speaking to ESPN, the two-time World Cup winner offered a candid take on the endless GOAT debate.

“Cristiano has scored in every way possible, even after changing his position. That’s not easy he’s one of the best players ever. But the best? I don’t think so,” Ronaldo said. “I’d put him in the top ten.”

Ronaldo Nazario, who dazzled at Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid, also reflected on his own career with characteristic humility.

“I don’t like to get involved in those discussions. Some people have too much confidence in themselves. I prefer to let others speak about what I did,” he added.

Cristiano Responds: “My Legacy Is Already Written”

The comments came shortly after Cristiano Ronaldo’s interview with Piers Morgan, in which the 40-year-old Al Nassr forward defended his legacy and dismissed the idea that he needs a World Cup to validate his career.

“Before me, Portugal hadn’t won anything. I’ve won three titles with my country that’s history,” said Ronaldo. “Winning the World Cup would be amazing, but it doesn’t define me.”

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, both Ronaldos one retired, one still defying time remain central to football’s greatest conversation.

For now, the debate between Cristiano, Messi, and Ronaldo Nazario continues to divide generations’ proof that the question of football’s true GOAT may never have a final answer.
