Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres endures a scoring drought as pressure builds on £67m signing.

Arsenal’s big-money summer signing Viktor Gyokeres is under growing scrutiny after another goalless performance, extending his barren run to seven matches in all competitions.

Despite the criticism, Premier League legend Alan Shearer insists the striker will eventually find his feet though he’ll fall short of his stunning Sporting Lisbon stats.

The Swedish forward, who arrived at the Emirates from Sporting CP for £67 million, has managed just three goals so far this season. Expectations were high after he netted close to 100 goals during his two years in Portugal, but he has struggled to adapt to the Premier League’s pace and physicality.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer offered a mix of support and realism: “He’s nowhere near the level of Kane, Haaland, or Mbappe, but he brings a different threat. He’ll need to improve his finishing, no question, but he creates space that helps Arsenal function better.”

Gyokeres was particularly wasteful in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, squandering multiple chances in front of goal. Nonetheless, his intelligent off-ball movement and physical presence have earned praise from manager Mikel Arteta and teammates who argue he contributes more than just goals.

Arteta has remained steadfast in backing his striker, citing the Swede’s tactical discipline and ability to stretch opposition defences. “He makes others better,” said the Arsenal boss after the win at Craven Cottage. “The goals will come. We trust him.”

With Arsenal sitting top of the Premier League table, Gyokeres’ drought has not yet cost them dearly. But with key title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City breathing down their necks, converting chances will soon become essential and Gyokeres must prove he’s more than just a supporting act.
